Grati-Tuesday: Celebrating Small Victories

This morning I reached a goal.  Only I didn’t just reach it, I ran right through it.

I have officially gotten rid of eleven pounds!

I’m still hanging on to quite a few, but they won’t be around for long.

Ryan and I have “dieted” on and off our whole marriage.  We’ve educated ourselves till our brains simply couldn’t hold anymore nutritional information… but we weren’t able to stick to any one method for very long.  We’ve exercised till we were blue in the face, but if you’re not fueling your body correctly, you’re just wasting your time.  And while I don’t want to jinx myself by publicly declaring that we’ll be perfectly healthy for the rest of our lives, we have certainly broken many of our old destructive habits.

All we’ve done is made a few very simple changes to the way we eat… mostly with regards to when we eat certain types of foods.

And you know what?  It’s working!  I don’t feel deprived, I don’t feel overwhelmed, and I don’t have to keep track of points, calories, or any other number.  My clothes are fitting differently, too.  Which is awesome.  Unless you’re talking about my saggy-butt jeans.  They make me glad that silly groundhog predicted an early spring because the sooner the weather warms up, the easier it will be to avoid buying more jeans.  🙂

What about exercise?  Right now, I couldn’t possibly care any less about it.  Ever have those seasons in your life where no matter how hard you try, you can’t keep all your plates spinning smoothly at the same time?  I feel like I’m finally coming out of a long, dark, plate-crashing season… and trying to add consistent workouts back in right now would really mess things up again.  BUT… I have noticed an increase in energy.  I have a hard time just sitting and doing nothing for longer than about 15 minutes during the day.  And my hormones seem to be balancing a bit better as well (and let’s be honest… everyone benefits from that!).

We’re taking a family trip to Maui at the end of this summer, and while that wasn’t the impetus for our lifestyle changes, it definitely serves as great motivation.  All we can do is keep on keepin’ on… sayin’ “Aloooooooha!” to all the extra weight.  YAY!
